With the 23rd anniversary of my husband’s death coming up, I wanted to submit a poem I wrote today in his memory:
It feels like only yesterday I heard the news
I remember so clearly, it still gives me the blues
The tears streaming down my face
In my black funeral dress with white lace
I hugged the flag from your coffin to my chest
And sobbed uncontrollably while you were laid to rest
You dreamt of an angel, his wings open wide,
He made you promise the night that you died
I feel you with me, keeping watch from above
Making sure all is well; an angel’s work is never done
It still hurts so much to remember the day you passed away
Twenty three years ago….
It feels like only yesterday

That was beautful. Thank you for sharing it.
