Passing the Torch Grant

We wanted to create more opportunities for our AWP family to make a positive and direct impact in their local communities. And so, our Passing the Torch Grant was born.

Widows with ideas for a project that will bring greater wellbeing to their community, fellow citizens, or environment (or any combination of the above!) can apply for a Passing the Torch grant. AWP will provide funds and guidance to help you see your project through, and we even invite you to reach out to us for help when you are drafting your proposal. We currently offer grants up to $500, but if you have an exceptional, big idea, please do not hesitate to share it with us, and we’ll see what we can do.

Grant Requirements

We honor the selflessness of each of our heroes—who put serving our nation above all—with this symbolic “passing of the torch.” For many military widows, finding ways to provide hope and service in their own communities is a valuable part of the healing process. Upon project completion, we offer our thanks to grantees by placing a commemorative paver with your hero’s name at a local veteran’s memorial site.

Applicant must provide a completed grant proposal

following the guidelines provided by the AWP.

Applicant must have previously attended one of American Widow Project's in-person retreats or online courses.

If selected as a recipient, Grantee must provide photos and documented impact of their project to the AWP before project begins.
